The existence of religious organizations such as Oase Intim has been truly important for the work of environmental justice in Indonesia. Recently, they published an anthology titled Ekoteologi (Ecotheology) as a result of an online consultation on ecotheology hosted by various universities and religious institutions in 2022. The book is opened by the Director of Oase Intim and prominent Christian ecotheologian Zakaria J. Ngelow. It includes 20 (twenty) chapters written by practical theologians and scholars. Renown scholars such as Robert P. Borrong, Elia Maggang, and the Chairman of Communion of Churches in Indonesia, Jacky Manuputty, also get involved.

The editors divide the book into three parts: (1) reflections on activities in various ecological contours, such as lakes, rivers, etc.; (2) “ecumenical and interreligious” approaches in ecotheology, and (3) church advocacies. This is Oase Intim’s third project on the “socio-ecological crises” in Indonesia after Teologi Tanah (Theology of Land) and Teologi Bencana (Theology of Disaster). Coming from the tradition of contextual theology, which has taken place since the 1970s, ecotheologians in Indonesia today believe that ecological problems always relate to social problems. Therefore, one must take account of the social entanglement where such ecotheological reflections are made. Ekoteologi dedicates its focus on the Indonesian “ecumenical and interreligious” context.
