Mia Krisna Pratiwi is the only woman from Indonesia who was included in BBC 100 Women 2021. Pratiwi made it to the list because of her contribution, together with a non-profit organization called Griya Luhu, to the environmental field, especially regarding the problem of plastic waste in Bali. Griya Luhu itself is an organization engaged in ecopreneurship and has a mission to change people’s behavior and awareness of sustainable waste management using digital technology.

Pratiwi joined Griya Luhu and started her contribution to the environmental field because she was concerned about the worsening waste problem in Bali, as an international tourist destination. She is an example of one who uses religious values to tackle environmental issues. To BBC, Pratiwi said that “her spirit is rooted in the traditional Balinese philosophy of life Tri Hita Karana which means let’s restore balance and harmony to our Mother Earth. This waste problem is our shared responsibility. People have the right and obligation to manage the waste they produce.” With this spirit and the cooperation of the local community, Pratiwi and her organization, Griya Luhu, developed a digital waste bank that aims to collect and process waste with better management.
